Disclosure Types

Standard checks are available for selected duties, positions and licences for example, Court Officers, Solicitors, Accountants, employment within a prison or the security Industry. A Standard disclosure contain details of all recorded convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings recorded on the Police National Computer. These certificates usually take 10-14 days to be issued from the date that they go onto the DBS’ system.

Enhanced disclosures require an added level of inspection. Checks are searched against local police force records, the Department for Education and Skills and the Department of Health and commonly used for roles that involve healthcare, training, supervision of children and work with vulnerable people. These certificates typically take 2-8 weeks to be issued from the date that they go onto the DBS’ system.

Sometimes referred to as a Basic DBS check, a Basic Disclosure is carried out by the Government organisation ‘Disclosure Scotland’.

A basic disclosure will search for any unspent convictions on an individual’s criminal history in order to make an informed hire and prevents the hiring of unsuitable candidates around vulnerable groups.

Organisations are only required to pay the administration costs for applications applied for on behalf of somebody undertaking a voluntary role.

The DBS are strict with their definition of a voluntary role and our team are on hand to provide you with information on volunteer eligibility.

DBS Adult First Check

This service is exclusive to the care sector and requests for the check must fulfil strict qualifying criteria and are permissible only where it is necessary to take such action because of a real danger of staffing levels falling below statutory obligations. A DBS Adult First check is appropriate where a person intends to work with both children and adults. Formerly known as ‘ISA Adult First’ and ‘POVA Check’, the DBS Adult First allows an individual to be checked against the DBS Adults’ Barred List. Dependent on the result of the check, this service allows the individual to start work under supervision while waiting for their full DBS check results.
